Writing Your First Prompt
The chat panel is where you describe, refine, and iterate on your website. The AI understands natural language — just tell it what you want. The more detail you provide upfront, the better your first result will be.
Examples of strong first messages:
- "Create a portfolio for a graphic designer named Sarah. She specializes in brand identity and packaging design. Use a clean, modern look with a dark color scheme."
- "Build a landing page for my coffee shop, Bean There. We're in Portland, OR. Show our menu, hours, and location."
- "I need an event page for a Web3 developer conference on April 15, 2026 in Miami. Include a speaker lineup and registration CTA."
Tips for better prompts:
- Include your actual business name, tagline, and services so you don't have to replace placeholder text later.
- Upload your logo and photos as content images in your first message.
- Upload a screenshot of a site you admire as a reference image and say "I want a similar style to this."
Refining Your Site
After the AI generates your site, keep chatting to make changes. Each message you send will update the site in the preview panel. Be incremental — make one or two changes per message rather than asking for many things at once.
Examples of refinement prompts:
- "Make the hero section taller and add a background gradient."
- "Change the color scheme to blue and white."
- "Add a testimonials section with 3 customer quotes."
- "Make the navigation sticky on scroll."
- "Add a contact form at the bottom."
Uploading Images
You can upload images to include in your website or to give the AI visual context.
There are two types of image uploads:
- Content (paperclip icon) — The image is stored and embedded in your website. Use for logos, hero images, product photos, and team headshots.
- Reference (brain icon) — The image is shown to the AI for context only — it is NOT included in the final site. Use to show a design mockup, color palette, or competitor site you want to emulate.
To upload images:
- Click the + button in the chat input area.
- Choose Upload Content or Upload Reference.
- Select up to 5 images from your device.
- Click the badge icon on any thumbnail to toggle between content and reference modes.
- Type your message describing what to do with the images, then send.
You can also paste images directly into the chat with Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V on Mac). Supported formats are PNG, JPEG, JPG, WebP, and GIF. Maximum file size is 1.5 MB per image, with up to 5 images per message. All uploaded images are scanned for safety before processing.
Choosing an AI Model
Switch between three AI models at any time using the AI model selector (brain icon) in the chat input toolbar. The AI maintains full context of your conversation regardless of which model you use.
- Claude Haiku — Fastest. Good for simple changes. Best for quick tweaks like color changes and text updates. Costs approximately 0.25–0.5 credits per message.
- Claude Sonnet — Balanced. Best all-around choice (default). Ideal for initial site generation and structural changes. Costs approximately 1–2 credits per message.
- Claude Opus — Slowest. Highest quality. Best for complex or highly detailed sites. Costs approximately 5–10 credits per message.
Recommendation: Start with Sonnet for your initial site generation. Switch to Haiku for quick refinements. Use Opus when you need the most sophisticated design or complex functionality.
Keyboard Shortcuts
- Enter — Send your message
- Shift + Enter — Add a new line without sending
- Ctrl/Cmd + V — Paste an image directly into the chat
- Escape — Exit fullscreen preview
Previewing Your Site
The preview panel shows a live rendering of your generated website.
Device modes (toggle using the device icons in the top-left of the preview panel):
- Desktop — Full width. See how the site looks on a laptop or monitor.
- Tablet — 768px. Check the tablet layout.
- Mobile — 375px. Verify the mobile experience.
View modes (toggle using the controls in the top-right of the preview panel):
- Preview — The rendered website in an iframe (default view).
- Code — The raw HTML source with syntax highlighting.
While the AI is generating, the view automatically switches to Code mode so you can watch the HTML stream in real time. It switches back to Preview when generation completes.
Click the fullscreen button to expand the preview to fill your screen. Press Escape to exit.
Sharing a Preview Link
Click the Preview button in the header to launch your site on a real, hosted temporary URL. This isn't a local mockup — it's your actual site running on live infrastructure, identical to what visitors will see once you publish. Share the link with your team, clients, or collaborators to get feedback before going live.
Publishing Your Site to a Domain
Once your site looks the way you want, you can publish it to one or more domains you own. With a single click, Unstoppable Domains handles the entire deployment: your files are uploaded to globally distributed hosting, DNS records are configured, and an SSL certificate is generated so your site is served over HTTPS.
To publish:
- Click the Publish button in the header.
- In the dialog, use the My Domains tab to find domains you already own, or the Find Domain tab to search for and purchase a new one.
- Click domain names to select them (a checkmark appears). Click again to deselect.
- Click Publish. The button shows the number of selected domains and the total credit cost.
Each domain costs 1 AI credit to publish. You can publish to up to 100 domains in a single operation. The domain will show a "Pending Deployment" status with a spinner while publishing is in progress. Once complete, your site is live and a success notification appears with a View link.
If any individual domain fails during a batch publish, the others still succeed and credits are automatically refunded for the failed domains.
Re-Publishing Updates
When you update your site through further conversation, the Publish button re-enables. Click it again to push your latest changes to your attached domains. Each re-publish costs 1 AI credit per domain, the same as the initial publish.
Buying a Domain and Auto-Publishing
You can find and purchase a domain directly from within the AI Site Builder using the Find Domain tab in the publish dialog. If you buy a domain this way, your site is automatically published to it the moment registration completes — no extra steps required. You'll receive a confirmation email when the auto-publish is complete.
A Note on External Nameservers
Domains that use external nameservers (DNS managed outside of Unstoppable Domains) cannot be published to from AI Site Builder. If you need to publish to such a domain, update its nameservers to point to Unstoppable Domains first.
