Why am I being asked to pay an early unlock fee?

Modified on: Wed, 17 Jun, 2026 at 6:02 PM

For a period of time we ran various discounted transfer programs. When transferring to Unstoppable Domains using a discount, you must keep that domain in your account for 365 days post-transfer. If you do not, you must re-pay the transfer discount you received.

This includes both transfer-outs and pushing the domain to a new account.

Why do I have to re-pay for a push?

When you push the domain from your account to another Unstoppable Domains' account, you must re-pay the transfer discount.

If we allowed a push to remove the fee requirement, it would encourage duplicate account creation to circumvent the early unlock fee.

If we allowed the push and kept the fee requirement, it would result in accounts that did not benefit from the transfer discount having to pay it if they try to transfer prior to 365 days after the original account holder had transferred.

What about Afternic Fast Transfer?

Afternic Fast Transfer transfers do not require the early unlock fee.
