We recently made an upgrade to our DNS infrastructure to improve performance and reliability for all domains managed through Unstoppable Domains. As part of this change, you may notice your domain is now pointing to new nameservers. Here's everything you need to know.
What changed?
We've migrated to a new DNS provider. As a result, domains managed by Unstoppable Domains will now use the following nameservers:
ns1.unstoppabledomains.comns2.unstoppabledomains.com
Why did Unstoppable Domains make this change?
We're always working to improve the experience for our users. This migration moves us to a DNS provider that offers better performance, improved reliability, and a stronger foundation for future DNS features. The new infrastructure is more resilient and better suited to support the scale of domains we manage.
Does this affect all domains?
- New registrations — All newly registered domains will be set up on the new DNS provider automatically.
- Existing domains — We'll be kicking off the migration of existing domains to the new DNS provider soon. When your domain is migrated, you will notice your nameservers update — this is expected and no action is required on your part. If your existing domains are using external nameservers, they will not be updated. To learn more about what to expect, visit our DNS Migration page.
Do I need to do anything?
No. The migration is handled automatically. Your DNS records will be carried over, and your domain should continue to resolve as expected.
What's different about the new DNS provider?
The primary differences are:
- New nameservers — Your domain will now point to
ns1.unstoppabledomains.comandns2.unstoppabledomains.cominstead of the previous nameservers. - ALIAS records are no longer supported — ALIAS records are not part of the standard DNS specification (RFC-compliant DNS) and were used by a small portion of domains, so they are not supported on the new provider. If you have an ALIAS record configured, then you should have received direct communications.
What should I do if I need to use an ALIAS record?
ALIAS records are a non-standard DNS record type that some providers support as a convenience feature. Since our new DNS provider follows standard RFC-compliant DNS, ALIAS records are not available.
If you need an ALIAS record, here are some common alternatives:
- At the zone apex (root domain): Use an A record pointing directly to your host's IP address.
- For subdomains: Use a CNAME record pointing to your target hostname.
