TABLE OF CONTENTS

The UP.io Security Center is your central hub for managing and enhancing the security of your wallet. Here, you can customize key settings to protect your assets and ensure safe usage. With features like two-factor authentication (2FA), password reset, custom security rules, and receive-only mode, you can safeguard access to your wallet, as well as control how your wallet interacts with other services.

If any recommended security features are missing, an indicator will appear on your wallet, prompting you to take action.

Clicking on the checkmark will take you to the Security Center with the recommended features highlighted.

Alternatively, the Security Center can be accessed from the kebab menu located at top right corner of the wallet.

Key Features

Password

The password section allows the user to change their password at any time. The ability to modify your wallet password may sound trivial, but it is a huge improvement from traditional wallets tied to a seed phrase or private key that cannot be changed. The MPC technology used by UP.io enables you the flexibility to change your password for optimized security. For example, if you suspect your password has been compromised you can always change it to ensure you maintain exclusive access to your wallet.

Emergency Backup

Create a new emergency backup to ensure you maintain access to your wallet even if you lose your password. The emergency backup feature is discussed in more detail in this support article.

Two-Factor Authentication

Use a two-factor authentication (2FA) application such as Google Authenticator to create an additional layer of security for your wallet. Once enabled, a rotating 6-digit code created in the 2FA application is required to sign in as well as complete security sensitive activities in the wallet.

Session Timeout

Enabling the session timeout in the browser extension or the UP.io website will lock your browser session with a PIN after a period of inactivity. This is useful to protect funds in your wallet when you walk away from your computer or when you are not actively using your wallet.

App Connections

In the browser extension, you can enable or disable the ability for applications to request access to your wallet for transaction signatures. If you plan to use your wallet as cold storage, we recommend disabling app connections to ensure websites do not attempt to prompt you for signatures. If you plan to use your wallet for DeFi activities, app connections should remain enabled.

Receive-only mode

The receive-only mode feature allows users to lock their wallet from sending cryptocurrency or signing any transactions. While in this mode, users will still be able to receive funds or assets.

To enable this feature, two-factor authentication (2FA) must be set up as a prerequisite.

There are currently two options:

  • Standard - The wallet can be unlocked at any time by the user. The one-time code from an authenticator app is required to unlock.
  • Time lock safe - This keeps the wallet locked until a future date. The wallet will ONLY be unlocked once the specified time has passed. It can not be manually unlocked. The time lock safe feature is useful for situations where you want your wallet to be totally inaccessible for a period of time, for example if you'll be leaving the country for a month and want to ensure it stays locked.

Visit the Security Center often as we continue to offer more security controls.
