How to Update Whois Contact Information

Modified on: Mon, 15 Sep, 2025 at 9:12 PM

You can update your Whois contact information directly from your domain’s management page in your Unstoppable Domains account. Whois information is required for all DNS (Web2) domains to show ownership and provide contact details for the registrant, administrator, technical contact, and billing contact.

While Whois records are required, Unstoppable Domains provides free Whois Privacy to keep your personal information protected from being publicly available.

Steps to Update Whois Information

  1. Go to My Domains

  2. Click on the domain you want to update

  3. Click on Whois Contacts

  4. Select the contact type you wish to update

  5. If you need to create a new contact, click Create Contact

This will take you to the Contacts page under Domain Presets.

  1. Click Create new contact in the top right
  2. Enter the new contact information and click Save

Important: If the Registrant Contact is updated, an email verification will be required. The verification email is sent to the prior registrant email address, which may not be the same as the email address on your Unstoppable Domains account.

Once the contact is created, it will appear as an option when updating your domain’s Whois contacts. It may take a few minutes for the new contact to become available.

To apply the new contact:

  1. Return to the domain’s management page
  2. Click on Whois Contacts again
  3. Select the new contact preset for each contact type you want to update

Whois Contact Types Explained

  • Registrant Contact – The legal owner of the domain. This must always be accurate, as it defines who holds the rights to the domain.

  • Administrative Contact (Admin) – The person responsible for administrative matters related to the domain (such as transfers).

  • Technical Contact – The person or entity responsible for technical issues, such as DNS or hosting configurations.

  • Billing Contact – The person or entity responsible for billing and payment matters related to the domain.
